Job Description

Purpose:

The Research Compliance Coordinator is responsible for providing assistance in regulatory affairs compliance including export control and conflict of interest compliance. Serves as a liaison between the programs and the research community as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Compliance Officers in promoting export control awareness and conflict of interest compliance, implementing policies and procedures to comply with federal laws, system policies and regulations, as well as agency rules and procedures.
  • Coordinates and supports aspects of compliance reviews based on knowledge of institutional guidelines and federal regulations. Consults and advises researchers and staff in the preparation of compliance documents.
  • Assists with and conducts compliance screenings and administers access to compliance tools as directed by supervisor.
  • Assists in the development of training materials and conducts regulatory training as needed. Assists in updating and maintaining materials and program websites.
  • Adds value by contributing to the agency compliance efforts in support of research integrity and compliance.
  • Review of foreign travel for export control compliance.
  • Review of conflict of interest and foreign influence compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we need:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience.

What is helpful:

  • Related experience in export controls, conflict of interest and/or research administration.
  • General knowledge of export controls regulations.
  • Familiarity with Huron system for conflict-of-interest review.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of basic regulatory requirements and/or experience in regulatory affairs compliance related work.
  • Knowledge/experience working with database and spreadsheet software.
  • Requires tact and diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Requires strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of Export Control regulations (including ITAR, EAR, and OFAC regulations)

Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Research Compliance facilitates and assists faculty and staff in complying with federal and state laws and regulations and Texas A&M System policies and regulations in the areas of research security, export controls, foreign influence vulnerabilities, conflicts of interest, and consulting and external employment disclosures. We also work with the Texas A&M University (TAMU) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in the areas of animal use, biohazards, and human subject research.
