Job Summary

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

TEMPORARY PART TIME POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT 2

DURATION: Approximately September 2021 through May 2022 (dependent on influenza season/COVID-19 Pandemic)

HOURS: 20-40hrs/week                          PAY RATE: $18 per hour


Responsibilities*

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with a CDC-funded COVID-19 and influenza research study, working under the direction and supervision of UM faculty and senior research staff. The goals of this project are to assess the illness course and epidemiology of influenza and COVID-19 and to estimate the effectiveness of the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines in preventing ambulatory care visits associated with illness.

The Research Assistant will identify and recruit potential eligible study participants based on outpatient clinic visits, obtain informed consent, administer study interviews and complete data collection forms, and to instruct subjects on how to complete and return at-home surveys.  Due to COVID-19 research contact restrictions, study recruitment and enrollment will take place remotely with the possibility of a return to in-person study recruitment.


Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate will have experience assisting with patient health care visits or research study experience, including informed consent process, interviewing research study subjects, accurately completing data collection forms. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order work effectively with staff at participating health centers. Basic computing skills such as email and Microsoft Office are necessary. Reliable transportation to the University of Michigan School of Public Health and UM health centers is required.  Due to COVID-19 research contact restrictions, recruitment will take place remotely.  The Research Assistant must have their own computer and internet connection.
