Summary

The Killian-Abraham Labs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Michigan Medicine are seeking a Research Assistant to join our team. Responsibilities*

The employee will join a team investigating tendon and muscle growth and healing. 

  • The candidate will play a role in animal husbandry; assist with the design, approval, and revisions for studies involving human and animal research; and conduct experiments in association with graduate and undergraduate students focused on mechanical loading during musculoskeletal growth in mouse models and in vitro systems. 
  • The individual will be expected to participate in basic science studies, including tissue harvests, mouse handling and anesthesia/analgesia, mouse husbandry, biomechanical testing, histology, cell culture, gene expression, protein analyses, and documentation. 
  • They will assist in report writing, protocol development and implementation, and will be responsible for completing lab documentation. They will also provide assistance in developing and designing research projects and suggest options for improvement. 
  • This person may also assist and supervise students and others in instrument operation and assist in preparation of research papers, manuscripts, and progress reports

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma.
  • 1-2 years of basic or clinical research experience.
  • Basic understanding and willingness to follow IRB and/or animal study protocols.
  • Good interpersonal, team-work, organizational, and communication skills are required.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Prior experience in orthopaedic research.
