Research Associate – Yang-Tan Institute - ILR School, Cornell University

Position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University, or can be based remotely within New York State.

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Research Associate in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division.

Our Team:

The Yang-Tan Institute (YTI) conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace. Researchers and practitioners at YTI have helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, and communities throughout the United States and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. Our team consults with business and industry, and with policy makers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners.

What you will do:

This position will conduct program evaluation, research, and dissemination activities in support of several research projects funded to the Yang Tan Institute on Employment and Disability (YTI). The position will be responsible for the design and implementation of research studies, communicating summary research findings to team members, writing of research and evaluation reports for funding agencies, and scholarly publications for submission to peer-reviewed journals, contributing to proposal grant writing, and assisting with annual project reporting across a number of YTI projects. 

Research Associate is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial appointment through September 30, 2025. The position may be re-appointed based on recommendations by the appropriate YTI Leadership and Associate Dean for Outreach, as well as available funding and work.

What we need:

• Ph.D. in sociology, psychology, social work, program evaluation, applied social science research or related field.
• Significant experience and demonstrated competency in mixed-methods research methodology.
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, providing critical independent thinking while also considering diverse opinions and approaches.
• Experience with cleaning and analysis of administrative data
• Experience with analysis of national survey data
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to qualitative data collection and analysis, statistical data analysis, instrument design, conducting observational field research, writing of research reports and manuscripts for publication.
• Proven ability to use and learn different software packages and web-based tools.
• Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability do presentations to large audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative environments and to contribute to the innovation and outcome success of a team.

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

• Two or more years of experience in a research and program evaluation environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with RSA-911 data
• Familiarity with disability policy, rehabilitation, and disability statistics related research and literature.
• Understanding of randomized controlled experimental designs and program fidelity assessment
• Proven ability to design and manipulate databases, use computer-based statistical and analytical applications, and be able to design outcome and impact studies. 
• Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in in the area of disability and employment
• One or more years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.
• Extensive record of presentations to large audiences and experience in making presentations at professional conferences.
