Essential Functions (Job Duties)
The Research Associate assists the Principal Investigator in designing protocols and supervising technical staff to complete research projects. Using their extensive research experience, they conduct independent research which may result in scholarly publications and perform technical presentations at scientific meetings. They also complete technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures and help maintain the laboratory.
Essential Functions include:
Study drug resistance in breast/ovarian cancers.
Conduct research involving extensive tissue culture, molecular biology and biochemistry.
Manage the day to day activities of the group including; safety, regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, training, ordering, finance and orientation of new lab members.
Perform experiments that contribute to the ongoing projects of the group.
Collect and log experimental data. May participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. May assist other lab members with experiments as required.
May evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of data using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated.
May prepare and present presentations regarding research results for professional, scientific and academic conferences, summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals and fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.
Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Unique Duties
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in cancer biology, pharmacology, or biochemistry.
Motivated Research Associate must be enthusiastic and prepared to work the necessary hours required to develop a successful and highly productive research career.
Must have a strong molecular biology background with previous experience in protein-protein interaction.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Able to maintain a friendly and approachable manner. Able to work effectively in teams.
Self-starter, independent thinker, highly motivated, superior planning and organizing skills. Must possess high level problem-solving skills and be proficient at multi-tasking. Must be able to meet deadlines.
Data collection and data management. Basic arithmetic mathematical skills (adding subtracting multiplying dividing).
Basic related scientific techniques and procedures as learned from academic laboratory or field experimental experience.
Familiarity with scientific integrity principles.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD preferred in cancer biology, pharmacology, or biochemistry.
