The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is currently seeking a Research Associate (post-doctoral research fellow), MD or PhD, to work and study in an NIH-funded research program directed by Dr. Antonio Abbate. The incumbent will be assigned tasks associated with clinical trial start-up, recruitment, enrollment, and execution. In addition, they will contribute to the development of basic and clinical protocols, assist in the grant writing process, and conduct literature reviews, as applicable to Dr. Abbate and his team’s current and future research. In addition, they are expected to develop and execute their own novel research project, as time permits.
The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in team meetings and CVRC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, fellows and collaborators associated to the team. Strong time management and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required.
Job responsibilities include:
- Full-time research or scholarship at the University
- Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career
- Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education: Doctoral degree at the time of hire.
Experience: Experience in cardiology and pharmacology is preferred.
Physical demands: This is primarily a job involving use of desktop computers in the main office as well going to different locations in the hospital, clinics and research labs. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. This position will sponsor applicants for work visas. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The position will remain open until filled.
