Job Summary
The Sawant-Pokam lab is in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and is seeking a highly motivated postdoc for a NIH funded project focused on cellular and synaptic mechanisms underlying network excitability following traumatic brain injury. Individuals will use a variety of techniques, including in vivo whole-cell recording and two-photon microscopy, brain slice physiology, and genetic manipulation.
Dr. Sawant-Pokam’s lab is adjacent to many interdisciplinary groups of investigators who focus on the processes that cause neurological disorders ranging from migraine to traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease. This is an exceptional opportunity for a candidate to build a research program through innovative science that can embark on their independent career.
Responsibilities
This position offers the chance to learn and apply cutting-edge in vivo whole-cell recordings and two-photon imaging methods (see Sawant-Pokam et al., 2017 and Sawant-Pokam et al., 2020). The successful candidate will gain support from a senior scientist in order to tackle research problems and benefit from a strong scientific and translational research environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a closely related field. Prior experience with electrophysiology and/or imaging is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and will follow NIH guidelines. This position is eligible for individual and dependent health care plans that include medical, dental, disability, and life insurance benefits.
Please apply electronically to PUNAM[email protected]. Please include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae and the names and e-mail addresses of three references.
