Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in computational defect dynamics to join Prof. Ill Ryu’s research group (Computational Materials Design Lab) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. This fixed-term post is funded by Shell for 6 months or until 31st December 2024.
You will run computer simulations to predict the mechanical behaviors of nanostructural metals, especially small-scaling strengthening at mesoscale, which could arguably enhance mechanical performance for the deployment of an advanced manufacturing and technologies such as transport, defence, marine and construction sectors.
Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • PhD in engineering, mathematics, physics, materials science, or other closely-related disciplines.
  • Also, you should have experience in at least one of the following:
    • Finite element analysis, ABAQUS or MATLAB,Fracture Mechanics,Multi-physics modelling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for conducting multi-scale modeling to predict the deformation and failure of metallic materials and components during multi-physical environments. You will be expected to have (or develop) a sound understanding of fracture mechanics and combine sophisticated calculations with first-order insight from sound analytical methods. You will likely use ABAQUS or MATLAB, but it will likely be possible to also utilize in-house or open-source codes. You will be expected to tackle both fundamental and applied problems. You will also be expected to take part in collaborative work, take part in the activities of the research group, submit publications to reputed journals and liaise with academic collaborators and sponsors.
