POSITION INFORMATION: Provides assistance to a research staff by collecting data, keeping records, conducting literature and technical research, analyzing data, preparing reports, etc.  The candidate will be responsible for operation, quality control and maintenance of cyclotron equipment. The project requires and radioactivity handling experience. While prior understanding of these aspects is a definite plus, appropriate training will be provided. Preference will be given to candidates with technologist training/experience in nuclear imaging and background in chemistry.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Equipment:  Operates  and manages a cyclotron for the production of radioactivity and radio-pharmaceuticals.
  • Data Collection.  Acquires and maintains data output from equipment and collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. 
  • Record Keeping.  Keeps record of information obtained during research and maintains equipment usage catalogue.  May include maintenance of a database, hard files, etc. as per good manufacturing practices.
  • Literature Research.  Conducts research of the literature pertaining to the primary job responsibilities. 
  • Technical Research.  Independently conducts technical research, including cyclotron operation and quality control. 
  • Data Analysis.  Conducts analyses of data.  Prints images, prepare electronic files of data and provides them to the investigator. Interprets, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.
  • Report Preparation.  Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication. 
  • Collaboration.  Assists and collaborates with other researchers.
  • Material Presentation.  Presents/shares research material to fellow researchers and investigators.
  • Laboratory upkeep. Keeps laboratory space clean and tidy, and maintains inventory.
  • As Needed.  Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

    Job Requirements

    Education:  Master’s Degree comparable to where the vacancy exists


    Experience:  60 months of research specialty experience and 12 months of supervisory experience


    Equivalent/ Substitution:  Will accept a Ph.D. plus 36 months experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow

     

    Skills/Abilities: 

    • Cyclotron, nuclear imaging, analytical and biochemical skills, radioactivity handling, animal models, and ability to work in a team 
    • Ability to recognize and control risks from work activities (i.e. radiation safety, etc.)    
    • Good written and verbal communication skills

    Preferred: 


    • Experience in a chemistry lab setting is a plus. 
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have prior work experience in the use of radioactivity/ionizing radiation and regulations associated with it.
    • Working knowledge of Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines and FDA licensing commitments.
