Position Summary
Founded in 1924, the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science provides training, consultation, and research support services to faculty, staff, and students across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and beyond. Odum expands Carolina’s impact by providing education and support for planning, implementing, and disseminating research. We work to advance rigorous and reproducible research across the data, social and health sciences, while building collaborative, trans-disciplinary research networks. Positioned in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Institute is funded through state/university appropriations and grants/contracts led by Institute staff. 
The Institute is situated within a campus with a continually growing and diverse faculty, staff, and student body. The Research Associate plays a key role in supporting, improving, and advancing statistical and quantitative analysis consulting within the Odum Institute and across the UNC Chapel Hill campus. The position provides elevated level statistical and quantitative analysis consulting services for social and health sciences faculty, staff, and graduate students. Instructor for various high level quantitative software and procedures. Consulting topics range from funded research projects to dissertations/theses to administrative surveys and other internal data collection efforts. 
The Research Associate also plans and teaches short, noncredit workshops and short courses on statistical techniques (e.g., logistic regression, structural equation models, meta-analysis, test theory, econometric techniques, longitudinal analysis, social network analysis, spatial analysis, or other new methods in social science research), as well as on software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, Stata, SAS, and M-Plus). The position provides guest lectures to showcase Odum’s consulting services and to identify any gaps/needs on campus. the position recruits, trains, and supervises advanced graduate students serving as the Institute’s Stats Desk consultants (i.e., performing walk-in statistical methods consulting services). Finally, the Research Associate is expected to actively seek opportunities to collaborate on funded projects with UNC faculty.
Educational Requirements
Graduate degree in a social science or related discipline, with substantial training in quantitative analysis and statistics.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years in applied social science research, instruction, and consulting roles. 
- Demonstrated abilities in using and providing one-on-one and group instruction about high-level statistical applications, methodologies, and procedures. 
- Demonstrated successful classroom competence. 
- Demonstrated successful experience working with undergraduate, graduate and faculty level researchers. 
- Supervisory experience a plus.
