Primary Purpose of Department
The department is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the research and assessment related activities within the Division of Student Affairs and select university wide initiatives through a variety of campus partnerships. The department also coordinates and supports strategic planning and institutional effectiveness measures across the division.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Research Associate will contribute significantly towards advancing the culture of evidence within the Division of Student Affairs by collecting, manipulating, analyzing, and visualizing divisional and institutional data to support professionals in their quest to connect program, department, and division activity outcomes with actionable data.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
In consultation with the Director and Senior Research Associate, the Research Associate will develop strategies to integrate data to improve the efficiency of analytic development to support leadership. In addition, the Research Associate provides leadership in developing standardized data collection protocols to ensure the successful integration of Student Affairs data with existing/third party data sources to support the advancement of key initiatives within the Division. Providing expertise for developing the processes to ensure alignment between the business needs and IT technology and system roadmaps is a direct responsibility of the Research Associate.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Master’s degree in assessment, measurement, statistics, education research, or other research-oriented discipline related to assessment, evaluation, statistics, or social science research
  • One year of experience in a higher education setting; professional practice in or collaboration with Student Affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, promoting and/or implementing aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the work environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing students from underrepresented and/or marginalized backgrounds.
  • Significant experience is expected with the following software applications or product equivalents: Microsoft Office Professional Suite and SPSS. Proficiency with data visualization software (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) is required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree in assessment and measurement, statistics, student affairs, higher education, education research or other research-oriented discipline related to assessment and evaluation, statistics, or social science with one to three years of professional experience within student affairs coordinating and/or conducting assessment activities at the program, department or division level.
