Job Description Summary:
Set up and perform biochemistry laboratory procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments; Process samples, assays, cell culture studies, and protein purification; Perform basic statistical data analysis; Prepare tables, charts, and/or graphs to organize data; Present at research laboratory meetings; Contribute to the writing of manuscripts; Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. More specifically: Perform protein purification using primary human embryonic kidney cells and prokaryotic protein purification systems (35%); Design and plan enzymatic assays or experiments to explore the biochemical properties of the laboratory's enzyme(s) of interest (25%); Perform biochemistry experiments using purified proteins as well as human plasma (10%); Train students and laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques (10%); Assist in the preparation of research for publication and/or presentation (10%); Prepare and present research findings and literature review in laboratory group meetings (5%); Perform other duties as assigned (5%).
Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in biology, chemistry, medicine, or other relevant science
  • One year of experience with protein purification utilizing eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells
  • One year of experience with enzymatic analysis using human plasma
  • One year of experience generating recombinant proteins

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
