Nature of Work
The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Research Associate - Biostatistician.

Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) is a campus wide analytics center charged with expanding the analytics expertise and research for the Anschutz Medical Campus. This person in this position will join over two dozen master’s and PhD trained faculty in CIDA and over three-dozen faculty and research personnel in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics.
 
The work for this position is split between consulting, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Program, and major collaborative research groups. The Research Associate is a key research-faculty position in the Department. A Research Associate is expected to provide high-level, professional and scientifically rigorous biostatistics/data science consulting and collaboration support to biomedical researchers at CU Anschutz. They are expected to become a significant contributor in their collaborations, and partner to define and shape the research direction of the team. A person in this position works with investigators on the design and analytical aspects of the research process, including: design of new studies, structuring data collection systems, the application of state-of-the-art methodologies, analyses, and preparation of abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts. Depending on the particular collaborations interesting biostatistics/data science research opportunities may arise; although it is not the emphasis of the position.
 
The collaboration needs are varied ranging from design and analysis of 1) electronic health records and administrative data, 2) multi-‘omics data, and 3) general clinical research, including clinical trials. The individual will be presented with a mix of standard applications and new and challenging data requiring use of state-of-the-art methodologies and novel solutions. The desire to learn continuously and try new analytic approaches are key features of all faculty in CIDA.

Supervision Received
The Research Associate will be supervised by the CIDA Director.
 
Supervision Exercised
This position will have supervisory responsibilities over the data science faculty and students in CIDA.
 
Examples of Work Performed
The Research Associate will work independently with investigators spanning the spectrum of biomedical and public health research on an academic health sciences campus. This individual will provide the biostatistical/data science expertise and leadership in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines. The Research Associate will be expected to develop leadership roles in their collaborations and become known for their areas of expertise across the campus and region.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research.

  • Evidence of an ability to conduct methods research or investigate the validity of new methods in their area of study.

  • Evidence of developing data analysis techniques or pipelines and applying them in new situations.

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.

  • Strong programming skills in multiple languages including R, Python, SAS, or others.

  • Experience with high-performance computing environments.

  • Good organizational skills across individual projects, managing own workload.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of biomedical investigators and colleagues.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • An innate desire to learn new methods and technologies and adapt to the demands of a fast paced and ever-evolving research environment.

  • Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the CIDA, their collaboration and the Department.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be culturally responsive and exercise cultural humility while communicating appropriately and effectively with diverse audiences

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting health equity and/or health justice

Salary and Benefits
The salary / salary range for this position has been established at $93,000 to $110,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, rank, internal equity, experience, education, and area of expertise. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in biostatistics, statistics, biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics or related fields at the start date of the position.
  • 1 year of consulting/collaborative experience in their graduate training or in a post-doctoral position.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of consulting/collaborative research experience
  • Evidence of independent or collaborative research through publications.
  • Experience in giving presentations and seminars at scientific meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead the data analytic elements of clinical or translational research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead the computational elements of multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Or Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
