The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a full-time opening for a Research Associate in the Division of Reproductive Sciences, whose principal investigator is a basic/translational research scientist. The selected individual will conduct research focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian and endometrial. The primary focuses will be to conduct in vivo modeling and the generation of pre-clinical data. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate:

  • A strong work ethic
  • An ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness and aptitude in mentoring trainees of varying levels of experience (ranging from undergraduate, masters, graduate students to clinical fellows and other post-doctoral research fellows)
  • Initiative to learn novel methodologies
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented technical skills, record-keeping, and scientific/statistical analyses
  • Excellent communication skills with all members of the lab
  • Animal maintenance and genotyping of mice

 

Please note that this position specifically also requires the applicant to have flexibility in work hours to include some weekends .

 

Specific Position Duties with percentages of time

  • Research (80%)
    • Designing and performing experiments in a methodical, scientific manner using advanced biomedical research techniques
    • Executing in vivo tumor models
    • Developing and validating new methodologies/applications
    • Assisting the PI with writing high-quality scientific publications
    • Presenting research at scientific meetings
  • Teaching (10%)
    • Train/teach/supervise students, professional research assistants, and other lab members
  • Administrative (10%)
    • Organization and coordination of day-to-day activities within the research lab
      • Ensuring that the lab is up-to-date on activities/requirements mandated by the University of Colorado regulatory compliance rules
      • Maintaining impeccable and meticulous documentation of research subject information, research specimens, etc.
      • Maintaining research equipment and receiving and organizing supplies in conjunction with a PRA

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $52,000 to $62,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in relevant scientific area such as Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Reproductive Biology
  • Relevant technical skills, including experience with primary cell isolation/culture and routine laboratory experiments such as performance and analysis of real-time PCR, western blotting, biochemical assays, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry/FACS, ELISAs
  • Mouse handling, including survival surgery, imaging, and treatment
  • Appropriate knowledge of basic statistics and facility with standard statistical programs such as GraphPad Prism
  • Flexible work schedule, including weekends, as required for completion of study goals

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in cell biology, cancer biology and physiology of the mouse reproductive axis
  • Prior experimental background with mouse experiments
  • Prior experience with advanced mouse imaging techniques, including confocal and regular microscopy
  • Ability to record and maintain thorough and meticulous lab research documentation
  • Excellent skills in scientific writing
  • Ability to work independently yet collaboratively
  • A strong work ethic and a commitment to being a team player in the lab and advancing knowledge in the field
