Job Summary:
The purpose of the UNC human pluripotent Stem Cell Core (HPSCC) is to provide UNC investigators and outside collaborators with a platform for basic and translational research using pluripotent stem cells. The HPSCC offers a wide range of services, including generation of pluripotent stem cells, differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into various cell types, and genome editing of mammalian cells. The HPSCC is actively participating in increasing the awareness of the enormous potential of stem cell research with the NC research community, developing and supporting a highly collaborative environment for research and education, and attracting pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies performing related research and development. The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Specialist under the direction of Dr. Beltran, the HPSCC director. The facility provides a platform for basic and translational research using stem cells. The HPSCC offers specialized services, including iPSCs generation, gene editing, stem cell differentiation into specialized cell types including neurons, and organoids cultures. The facility is actively participating to increase the awareness of the enormous potential of stem cell research within the NC research community, to develop and support a highly collaborative environment for research and education, and to attract pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies performing related research and development.The Research Specialist must be: 1) able to work independently and supervise research personnel, 2) highly organized and detail-oriented person, 3) capable of working on multiple projects during a specific time-frame, 4) proficient at stem cell culture, 5) able to design genome editing experiments, and 6) have a solid background in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology. Other responsibilities include developing project timelines, budgets, and estimates.  
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in biological sciences or related area with at least 2 year-hands on experience, or Master degree with at least 10 years hands on experience preferred. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
