Who We Are

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is home to internationally leading research in applied physics, astronomy, atomic physics, quantum optics, condensed matter physics, high energy physics, nuclear physics, and related areas. What We Want

The Research Associate will perform analyses of x-ray imaging of galaxy clusters. In addition, they will prepare and publish data. This position will be responsbile for research in x-ray astronomy. What You Need to Know

Starting Salary: $15 per hour

Position Logisitics: This is a part-time position with 15 hours a week designed for work. In addition, the duration for this position is only one year.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • Two years’ astronomical data analysis experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Python coding, LINUX or MacOS terminal usage

  • Strong familiarity with astronomical databases

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with astronomical database mining and stellar data analysis

  • Experience writing and reviewing astronomical publications in peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience with presenting at onferences

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis: Perform analyses of x-ray imaging of galaxy clusters; prepare and publish data

  • Group Support: Join group meetings, seminars, colloquia, and mentoring sessions and perform other duties, as assigned
