What you need to know

Work Schedule: General work hours M-F, 8am-5pm. Based on experimental design, some self-scheduling is allowed. Some night or weekend hours, as required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of relevant professional experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Strong knowledge of virology, or related disciplines

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • MS degree in biological/life science
  • Two or more years of experience in a virology laboratory
  • Experience in standard virology/molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blot, cell culture, virus titration, microscopy, immunostaining, protein expression etc.)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Interest in learning new techniques
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Strong desire and demonstrated ability to advance scientific projects
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Enjoys working as a team member as well as independently

Responsibilities:

Laboratory research

  • Perform daily laboratory bench top work under the direction of the PI or individually
  • Participate in the design of research goals and approaches.
  • Prepare data for presentation in manuscripts and grants.
  • Involved in training of new lab personnel.

Laboratory management

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations including ordering supplies, maintenance of lab equipment and compliance with safety requirements.

Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
