The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Associate to serve as a member of Dr. Yi Xu’s laboratory team in the Center for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in the general field of biological sciences with at least two years of professional experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.
Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, or cell biology.
Laboratory research experience in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry and animal models of infectious diseases are preferred.
Experience with molecular cloning, DNA and protein electrophoresis, PCR, protein expression and purification, cell cultures, microscopy, and animal models of infectious diseases.
Essential Duties/Tasks:
Research Experiments - Design, plan, conduct and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects. Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
Research Data - Keeps detailed records of data. Uses computers and laboratory equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, technical evaluation and presentation of research experiments and results. Evaluates and summarizes results for insertsion in scientific publications and presentations.
Collaborations - Conducts literature searches and reviews, attends seminars, lab meetings and journal clubs. Participates in joint projects involving faculty, lab personnel and graduate students. Participate in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies.
Laboratory Maintenance - Installs, operates, and/or repairs research equipment. Assists with maintaining lab equipment, stocks, and ordering supplies and equipment.
