The Program for Maternal Health Equity (PMHE) at the Center for Urban Bioethics (CUB) is seeking a Research Associate to join our team. PMHE is committed to conducting ethical, antiracist, and community-engaged research to advance and nurture the health, well-being, and agency of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous birthing families in Philadelphia and beyond. 

PMHE is seeking a Research Associate to support blood pressure education/training of patients enrolled in the PCORI-funded Change of HEART study. This will involve coordinating drop off of blood pressure cuffs and Bluetooth devices in the hospital or prenatal clinic. They will also provide education and training around blood pressure monitoring (including, but not limited to education around elevated blood pressure values that would necessitate return to the hospital). The Research Associate will additionally be responsible for coordinating 12-month research visits and collecting measures (specifically weight and blood pressure) at study patient homes when these patients are not available to come into Temple for visits.

The Research Associate will report directly to the Research Nurse Practitioner, and they will work closely with other members of the Change of HEART study team, including but not limited to the Senior Research Associate in charge of study recruitment, enrollment and follow-up visits and our community partner. This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote). It is a grant funded position.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Distributing blood pressure cuffs and Bluetooth devices along with training study patients on blood pressure monitoring.
  • Coordination and completion of study assessment visits along with distributing compensation, data entry, and completing measures (e.g., weight, height).
  • Working to drive day to day research activities and supporting multiple components of the clinical trial, while adhering with FDA, IRB, Pennsylvania, and related regulations. 

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience 
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of research or community-based experience. Experience as an undergraduate researcher can be applied toward the research experience requirement. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The applicant should be able to demonstrate curiosity, concentration, and intelligence.

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service
This position requires a background check for cash handling responsibilities
