The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Associate to serve as a member of the Center for Translational Cancer Research team. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Position Details: Occasional weekend or after-hours work might be required. Travel to in-state or out-of-state locations (durations up to 14 days for each trip) within the Continental US as required for training.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate bachelor’s degree

  • Two years of relevant professional experience. (Master’s degree is equivalent to two years of experience)


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines

  • Provide a safe environment that fosters respect, inclusion, and equality of all faculty, staff, students, and visitors

  • Ability to read and evaluate scientific literature for new information and application to current projects

  • This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated through oral meeting presentations and written publications, attention to detail and ability to independently plan and execute both short- and long-term collaborative projects, and work as part of a research team

  • Detailed written and electronic records kept at all times in media accessible to the directors and that all samples are adequately annotated that others can comprehend

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Genetics

  • More than two years of research laboratory experience

Responsibilities:

  • Experiments: Conducts experiments and technical procedures; carries out research problems. Performs studies by handling C. elegans, genotyping and generating transgenics.

  • Data Analysis: Prepares data for analysis and prepares samples. Obtain original research results. Organize and maintain equipment used in the lab. Order supplies, organize lab and maintain safety and operational standards.

  • General Operation: Uses computer for controlling equipment and compiling data; makes and records observations and measurements.

  • Writing and Research: Assists in writing and/or edits for publication of scientific materials requiring academic knowledge; researches and catalogs reference material requiring understanding of subject matter theory.

  • Meetings: Participate in weekly lab meetings within the center and other departments. Participate in joint projects involving faculty, junior lab personnel, and graduate students.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
