The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Associate to serve as a member of the Neuroscience team. Job Description Summary: The Research Associate is responsible for conducting research studies in the lab, including pharmacology of epilepsy, TBI and related brain diseases. The person is responsible for data compilation, analysis, and preparation of scientific manuscripts. The person is responsible to assist other research staff in implementing experimental studies and support with the research techniques and data analysis in the project.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate Bachelor's
  • Two years of related professional experience.


Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • MS degree in pharmacology or related biomedical science.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Relevant working experience in pharmacology or biomedical research lab
  • Experience and expertise in experimental seizure techniques
  • Experience in behavioral studies and interpretation
  • Experience in brain histology, microscope, and data compilation
  • Track-record of writing and publishing research manuscripts
  • Experience with lab research compliance such as chemicals and lab animals.
  • Experience working with animal EEG studies, data compilation and analysis.
  • Experience working with rodent models, brain surgery, animal care and monitoring.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic pharmacology research, epilepsy and TBI studies and analysis.
  • Knowledge of TBI, post-TBI epilepsy, training, and drug development.
  • Knowledge of research compliance, its implementation and data keeping.
  • Passionate about translational epilepsy neuroscience models.
  • Expertise in experimental seizure techniques
  • Expertise in behavioral studies and interpretation
  • Expertise in brain histology, microscope, and data compilation
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise and knowledge of epilepsy, TBI and EEG studies
  • Ability to organize, conduct and report pharmacological studies and experiments
  • Ability to conduct independent research and prepare manuscripts.
  • Ability to work with a team of colleagues and collaborators in implementing project goals.


Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform pharmacology research experiments with tools and techniques in the lab.
  • Develop approaches and scholarly activities including new techniques to address translational questions in epilepsy and pharmacology.
  • A commitment for excellence in performing and analyzing pharmacology research.
  • Development of novel treatments or biomarkers for epilepsy, TBI and seizure conditions.
  • Design and perform experiments procedures involving epilepsy and seizure studies. Organize and conduct studies of EEG studies and data monitoring.
  • Design and execute molecular studies, PK and analytical studies in the lab.
  • Responsible for performing survival surgical operations relevant to the project and all tools.
  • Work with students and research staff to perform research studies and compliance issues.
  • Lab Data Recording and Analysis: Systematic organization of studies and data recording.
  • Prepare and archive of scientific records, sample inventory, and research database.
  • Assist the PI in gathering relevant material for writing manuscripts.
  • Make presentations of research data at local and national scientific meetings.
  • Write and edits manuscripts related to research project and completing project progress reports.
  • General lab management: Lab compliance, ordering and inventory of lab materials for research projects.
  • Coordinate and maintain scientific supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain lab records and study protocols
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
