Job Summary:

Research Associate Sr will join the PI’s efforts in understanding the role of select proteins and mediators in the progression of pleural space reorganization. Candidate will perform in vivo and in vitro experiments and contribute to the laboratory research program. Research Associate Sr. will organize, design, and perform experiments utilizing molecular biology, and/or biochemical techniques and assays. The selected candidate will also perform experiments in the vivarium and the laboratory, which include animal experiments with a focus on, but not limited to, the development and maintenance of rabbit models of restrictive lung disease and hemothorax.  The candidate will also assist in management of the mouse breeding colonies and implement breeding colony management through timed mating and weaning, perform genotyping as needed.  In the laboratory the candidate will assist with exosomes isolation, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, transfections, and will assist in running assays such as Western Blots, qPCR, WB, ELISA as well as performing data analysis and maintenance of laboratory records.

 

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Perform experiments in vivo and in vitro (75%)
  • Prepare abstract, manuscript for publication and written reports of research and grant proposals (20%)
  • Makes scientific presentations and performs other work-related duties as assigned (5%).

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Work experience related to cellular and molecular biology techniques are essential. Run assays such as Western Blots, qPCR, WB, ELISA as well as carry out data analysis. Previous experience managing large breeding colonies is preferred. Familiarity with protocols for studies in animal models; Rat/Mouse handling, Rat bleeds, processing experience of animal tissues is strongly preferred; Familiarity with initiating and maintaining primary cell cultures; and knowledge about statistical methods is desired.



Qualifications

 

Required Education / Experience:

M.S. degree is preferred.

Strong background in molecular biology with interest in proteomics and genomics.

Prior experience in bioinformatics, statistics, microarray and/or NGS data analysis is plus.
