Summary

Thisposition ispart of theSurvey ResearchOperations (SRO) Design, Methodology, andStatistical Support (DMSS) unit at the University of Michigan'sInstitute for Social Research,Survey Research Center.DMSSisresponsible forsampledesign,paradata monitoring,weightingandimputation,and data analysisfora widerangeof surveys.Theunitalsohousesaprogram of methodologicalresearchto improve thecost-effectiveness and quality ofsurvey estimates andoffers internal statistical support to otherSRO units.

TheResearch AreaSpecialistwillbe responsible forprocurement ofexternal datasources andanalysis neededtocreatesurveysampleframes;dataformattingandcleaningofcomplexdatasets.Other responsibilitiesmayinclude paradatamonitoringandreporting, sampleimplementation,weightingand imputation,anddataanalysisinasupportingroleonSROsponsoredprojects.

Responsibilities*

Datamanagementandanalysis

Procure external data sources neededtocreate survey sample frames orsupplement analyses (e.g., publicly available data fromstate registrations,licensingagencies,thecensus orothersources); clean andformatlistscompiledfromvarioussources;provideanalysisofexternaldatasourcestoinform designdecisions; writeprograms to cleandata andperformstatistical analyses inR,SAS,and/orPython, including the handling of large/complex data sets; program recodes and derived variables necessary.

Paradata analysisandreporting

Perform database queries and develop reports on data collection processes; create tailored project reporting using complex project paradata; develop dashboards tofacilitate monitoring of data collection and sample performance. Perform cleaning and documentation of production data generated fromSRO studies. With direction, implement statistical analysis plans tailored to specific project needs. With direction, create data visualizationsand documentation of analytic results forresearch papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops.

Sampledesign,implementation,andprocessing

Support SROSampling Operations intheimplementationof sample designs onsponsored projects; with direction, implement and provide supporting documentation for post-survey processing steps including weighting, imputation of missing data, non-responseand other post-survey adjustment.

Specialassignments

Assist withmethodologicaland analytictasksrelated to maps,geocoding, spatialanalyses, and demographic data.


Required Qualifications*

Master's degree in statistics, data science, survey methodology, biostatistics orquantitative social science.

Minimum 4-5 years of experience inquantitative research design, implementation, data managementoranalysis.

Experience inany area of survey research or data collection (e.g. sampling, coding, data managementandprocessing, application programming, analysis andmethodology, geographic informationsystems,questionnairedesign,datacollection)orgeographicinformationsystems.

Demonstratedstatisticalproficiency.

DemonstratedcompetencyusingR.

Strongcommunicationskills.

Strongorganizationalskills,attentiontodetail andaccuracy.

Abilitytoeffectivelycollaboratewithothersinahighlyteam-basedenvironment.


Desired Qualifications*

Demonstrated experience instatistical sample design, sample implementation,or post-survey data processing.

Demonstratedcompetencyusing Python.

DemonstratedcompetencyusingtheSASstatisticalsoftwarepackage.

Demonstrated skills inany of the following areas: statistical process controls, reporting or dashboarddevelopment,composingtechnicaldocumentation,datamodeling,relational database technologies,andproduction support.
