Job Title: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, SENIOR - Campbell/D’Alessio Lab (Diabetes/Metabolism)
A Research Associate, Sr. is available to study metabolism in the context of obesity and diabetes in the laboratory of Drs. Jonathan Campbell and David D’Alessio at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute (dmpi.duke.edu).
Work Performed
This is a fully funded position immediately available, to work on multiple ongoing projects that study various aspects of islet biology, gut-hormones, and metabolism. The most important characteristics we are looking for are perseverance, curiosity, and an ability to work in a team-setting. We are a multi-disciplinary group that works in a highly collaborative manner, both internally and with multiple external collaborators. Prior experience with rodent models, islet biology, physiology, pharmacology, and molecular biology are valued. Specific training in experimental techniques, project planning, and writing will be prioritized with an emphasis on preparing candidates for an independent career in either academia or industry. The approaches in our group span from in vivo physiology and pharmacology, ex vivo islet perifusion, molecular biology, transgenic mouse models, and multiple unbiased ‘omics’ approaches. Examples of ongoing projects include:
- Incretin receptor signaling in the control of islet hormone secretion
- Paracrine interactions within the islet
- Pharmacological control of glucose homeostasis and body weight
- Biased signaling of G-protein coupled receptors
- Novel mechanisms to prevent hypoglycemia in Type 1 Diabetes
- Islet-hepatocyte cross-talk in diabetes
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
Experience:
The appointee must have greater than 5 years of postdoctoral training.
Skills:
