What we want

The Research Associate, under general direction of the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Nursing (SON), performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning. The position requires intellectual inquiry, ethical character, and consistent use of discretion and judgment. Prepares proposals and narratives for funding agencies to secure specific grants, provides support in scholarly writing to advance research support, coordinates research activities and events within the Office of Research, and may provide supervision of graduate students and other project personnel in research.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with appropriate research, simulation and/or technical equipment in a clinic or community laboratory. Familiarity with appropriate healthcare organizations, community-based laboratory settings and/or patient populations.

  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to collaborate and manage priorities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related field (e.g., public health, nursing, medical sciences, or other related fields). Three years or more related research experience.

  • Experience in writing grant proposals. Experience in scholarly writing (e.g., professional publications, articles).

  • Experience conducting human subjects research and compliance.

  • Experience with community-engaged research and evaluation projects.

  • Experience developing and utilizing online survey tools and software.

  • Desire and ability to help maintain a collegial and supportive team environment that is focused on advancing our work to effectively address health disparities for underserved populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Research Development Planning and Coordination: Designs, plans, conducts, and coordinates research activities in support of various research projects. Prepares and writes proposals to funding agencies.  Maintains financial knowledge and funder requirements related to research projects. Prepares narratives and coordinates the steps and processes in preparation for the submission of the proposal.

  • Research Support: Works closely with SON PIs and research teams to coordinate dissemination efforts related to the school’s portfolio of research projects. Summarizes results of projects for inclusion in sponsor reports, scientific publications, and community-oriented outreach. Coordinates research learning events and other activities to enhance the culture of research.

  • Research Implementation: Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques of routine research.  Maintains detailed records of data. Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research projects and results. May supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other project staff involved in research. May install, operate and/or repair research equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
