RESEARCH ASSOCIATE Job Title: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE Work Performed Communications The Research Associate will work with the Communications Team on education-related research and in the development and implementation of marketing and dissemination materials to support major initiatives and projects for the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University. Specific duties include but are not limited to the conceptualization and design of websites and content to populate the website. The Research Associate will also oversee the Cook Center’s social media platforms. The Research Associate will also support the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Collaborations development, planning and coordination of all Cook Center special events.
This position will also be the point person for Duke University Events Calendar, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook and Instagram accounts. This position will also assist with special events, conferences and workshops related to the Cook Center’s research and education agenda.
Teaching and Research
The Research Associate will serve as the Assistant Director of the Minor in Inequalities Studies Program and will be responsible for the following tasks:
· Online Communication and Content Management (5 hours per week): Building content for the Minor website, including student profiles, GIRI highlights, etc.; managing social media promotion for the Minor and its courses; managing Sakai course sites for Minor courses, responding to webform submissions from students with an interest in the Minor · Campus Engagement (5 hours per week): Presenting the Minor to relevant centers and leaders on campus (e.g., the Academic Advisors, in History Dept classes, at the Majors/Minors fair); meeting with students who declare the Minor or are considering the Minor) · Course Contributions (5 hours per week: Visiting classes, helping manage guest lecturers and honorariums, occasional lectures in Minor courses, developing syllabi and course content
The Research Associate will also develop a research portfolio related to issues of inequality.
Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training Ph.D. in media /visual studies and African and African American Studies or closely related field. Experience One year of experience working in communications and teaching and related activities.
