The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) at the University of Tennessee Knoxville,  the state's flagship research institution, seeks an applied statistician/quantitative scientist who can provide leadership in developing and providing statistical, data management, and data science support for health and education-focused research. A successful candidate will have a strong background in multidisciplinary science, excellent working knowledge of several statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.), and expertise in theory and application of probability and statistics. This position is a 12-month, non-tenure research track position and as such requires a focused program of research, though specific area of study is open. As well, the role requires superb grantsmanship skills, as evidenced by a history of funding as a principal investigator, co-investigator, primary statistician, and/or primary data scientist. This role will focus on supporting faculty within CEHHS, through providing individualized consultation to faculty in data analytic plans, statistical design, and statistical analysis.  The candidate can expect to consult and collaborate with faculty to develop analytic plans, recommend appropriate analytic strategies, write program code, analyze data and interpret findings design surveys and databases.  The candidate will also support professional development activities on data management and statistical methods that are provided to CEHHS to faculty. This position will work closely with the Associate Dean of Research, the Senior Methodologist, and the Director of External Funding in CEHHS, and have a home department within CEHHS that most closely aligns with the candidate's terminal degree and research area. The candidate will be expected to maintain a successfully funded research agenda and develop collaborations with CEHHS. Opportunities for teaching and mentoring students are available, if desired. Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Quantitative Methods, Education, Public Health, Epidemiology or related quantitative field; must qualify for the rank of research associate professor in the home department in which the candidate would be based; at least 3 years of external funding in collaborative research/scholarship; a strong record of scholarship in statistics and education or statistics and health, in which leadership is demonstrated; strong knowledge of quantitative methods; and demonstrated commitment to productive collaboration across many investigators and fields.

Applicants should also have expertise in one or more of the following: design and analysis of observational studies, approaches to planning and analyzing cluster randomized trials, randomized clinical trials, multi-level modeling, modern approaches to handling missing data, longitudinal data analyses, experimental designs, structural equation modeling, multivariate statistics, psychometrics, Bayesian methods, machine learning approaches, and/or analysis of quasi-experimental studies.

 

Desired Qualifications: Experience as being part of a multidisciplinary research team; history of mentoring faculty in externally-funded scholarship (statistics and data science); and history of funding from one or more of the following sponsors: NIH, IES, NSF, and/or large foundations.
