THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate performs interdisciplinary research projects on cellular and mouse models to study calcium signaling dyshomeostasis during the development of Alzheimer’s disease in the Department of Pharmacology, specifically concerning the molecular and cellular mechanistic interplay between a transient receptor potential canonical ion channel (TRPC3) with the calmodulin and calcineurin pathways.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and performs experiments under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI), to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanistic interplay between a transient receptor potential canonical ion channel (TRPC3) with the calmodulin and calcineurin pathways.
  • Serves as a lab manager, supervising junior research assistant in daily lab operations.
  • Performs multiphoton, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments independently.
  • Performs analysis of the generated data under the direction of the PI.
  • Participates in the research project design, manuscript, and grant writing.
  • Plan experiments (design, preparation for the experiment, writing procedure and protocols, writing lab notes), data recording, and data analysis.
  • Assists students in research projects and experiments.
  • Participates in conferences and lab meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  •  



    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Physiology, Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE:  Three (3) years of experience in biochemistry/molecular research laboratory. Must have completed three (3) years as a Post-Doc.  

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge related to areas of cell biology, physiology, cell signaling and human diseases.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to learn new techniques.
    • Knowledge of manuscript and research proposal writing.
    • Ability to think logically.
    • Knowledge of confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and biochemical assays is required.

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
