What we want

The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an part-time Research Associate to serve as a member of the Cell Biology & Genetics - Kodali Lab team. The Part Time Research Associate, under general supervision, is responsible for performing research activities requiring significant level of knowledge in medical sciences, including biochemistry and cell biology in the Kodali Lab. The Research Associate will perform, J imaging of immunohistochemically stained brain tissue sections for quantifying astrocytes and microglia,; biochemical assays for measuring various proteins,; microglia and astrocyte tracings using Neurolucida; cell counts using StereoInvestigator;  Confocal imaging of immunofluorescent labeled brain tissue sections for quantifying various neural cell markers; data analysis, interpretation and manuscript writing and maintain laboratory equipment. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of medical science experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. What you need to know

Schedule: This is a part-time position.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as biology or medical sciences

  • Two years of related professional experience in areas such as imaging of brain tissue sections, including confocal microscopy, and in writing research articles

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Imaging techniques

  • Confocal Microscopy of immunofluorescent-labeled brain tissue sections

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences

  • Writing reports and manuscripts for publication

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expertise in the following skills is preferred:

  • Data analysis and interpretation

  • Literature search using PubMed

  • Manuscript writing for publication

  • Cell culture techniques

Responsibilities:

  • Research Activities - Designs, plans and conducts research activities. Performs J Imaging of brain tissue sections stained for various neural markers. Conducts Confocal imaging and Z-section analysis of brain tissue sections stained for various neural markers. Performs tracing of neural cells using Neurolucida software. Counts neural cells using StereoInvestigator software. Conducts data analysis and interpretation; prepares and writes manuscripts. Maintains, operates research equipment; orders supplies and materials for research. Performs other duties as assigned.
