Job Description Summary:
The Research Associate will support the neurovascular division within the KU ADRC Neuroimaging Core and perform data collection, data file management, and analyze data. The Research Associate is to work collaboratively with the KU ADRC Clinical Core, Data Management Core, and other project teams to evaluate and improve the data and workflow systems used to collect, configure, analyze, and disseminate data. This position requires both individual and team-oriented work.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • Work Experience: 1-2 Years of Experience in Work Field(s)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Engineering, Neuroscience; or clinical degree with licensure such as physical therapist or other health related field
  • Work Experience: 1-2 years of research experience
  • Experience with data entry and data management using RedCap or other database systems, and any experience building RedCap database. 
  • Experience in scripting and code development in languages/packages including R, SigmaPlot, MatLab, PowerLab or similar would be helpful.

  • Ability to operate personal computer and various software packages such as Microsoft Office.
  • Evidence of leadership working within a team; strong work-ethic; self-motivated;
  • Confidence in problem-solving and decision making.

Job Duties Outlined:
  • Neurovascular Data :

  • The Research Associate must have an understanding about physiologic responses to exercise (heart rate, blood pressure, basic ECG knowledge). This position includes the application of various physiological stimuli such as exercise, sit to stand, or paced breathing to assess brain blood flow using transcranial Doppler ultrasound, blood pressure, and carbon dioxide in healthy people and chronic conditions. Additional data collection includes the assessment of vascular health using flow-mediated dilation techniques and pulse wave velocity. The Research Associate collaborates with research team members to collect, post-scan processing, analyze, interpret and curate prospective and retrospective data in various databases.
  • Oversee maintenance of equipment including calibration logs and day to day operations of the neurovascular procedures for the KU ADRC Neuroimaging Core.  Be able to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manual of procedures (MOP) for multiple studies.
  • Collaborate with the KU ADRC Clinical Core team to schedule neurovascular study visits and communicate with all parties involved including the participant and caregiver (when applicable) as well as the entire study team.
  • Evaluation, data collection, and data entry :
  • The Research Associate will perform study visits with participants to include basic data collection such as demographic information, health history, and other assessments as needed. Per protocols, entering data collected data into electronic database (RedCap) or industry sponsored data platform, and other duties as needed. Additional assessments may consist of:

  • Assess and evaluate muscle strength using hand grip or dynamometer,
  • Conduct physical assessments such as walking tests, submaximal exercise testing,
  • Take vital signs.
  • Work with the KU ADRC teams to prepare neurovascular data for monthly and annual reports. Opportunities to prepare data for conference presentations and publications.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
