Job Description:

Kansas City University's Research Lab is seeking a Research Associate to assist in the planning of research projects, collect and analyze data, collaborate in the design of protocols and perform a variety of laboratory procedures. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of Kansas City University by ensuring high-quality outcomes in research endeavors.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and coordinate lab activities for graduate and medical students’ research projects
  • Prepare routine laboratory reagents and maintain lab equipment and supplies
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of lab supplies and equipment
  • Perform Tissue Culture using aseptic techniques and conduct in vivo animal studies
  • Perform immunological experiments, biochemical procedures, flow cytometric analysis, and imaging using advanced microscopy techniques
  • Investigate gene expression procedures including real-time PCR
  • Assist in communicating experimental work and refining new techniques
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize data using paper and computerized methods
  • Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, and publications, and present results/findings at various venues and events
  • Track data, perform data entry for reports, and maintain records of methods used
  • Prepare bibliographies and abstracts for publications and present results/findings at team and departmental meetings
  • Perform all work in accordance with university regulations and policies
  • Perform administrative duties including preparing and assisting with IRB, IBC, and IACUC documentation or similar protocol submissions
  • Work with environmental health and safety to maintain compliance and a safe lab environment
  • Support faculty research projects through implementing experimental design, analyzing data, conducting literature searches, writing manuscripts, and preparing posters
  • Manage the research laboratory or office, including coordinating research students and managing research equipment

Supportive Functions:

  • Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation)
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
  • Actively participate in team and University meetings

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree plus 1-2 years equivalent experience
  • 3+ years’ experience working in biomedical research laboratory is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students, prioritizing team’s goals
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring that all tasks are completed with care and precision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both our research team and external personnel
  • Ability to analyze a situation and exercise good judgment and discretion as appropriate
  • Experience of working with laboratory animals is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of research and experimental protocols
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, ability to leverage technology to enhance productivity and efficiency

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
