Description of Work Unit
The Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRISS) is a Level II Core Facility supported by the Office of the Vice President for Research and College of Liberal Arts at Colorado State University which aims to connect and support social scientists with other researchers, as well as university, community, and industry partners. We develop and deliver services that enhance social science research capacity, help to improve grant competitiveness campus-wide, promote interdisciplinary research networking opportunities and provide research methods training in support of the University’s land grant mission. 
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Research, the Research Associate IV Team Scientist will lead, manage, develop, and participate in research for client-based Team Science research projects. This position will be responsible for conducting research and completing project-based assignments to sustain the needs and activities of IRISS in its goal of conducting transformational and collaborative social science. Responsibilities include development and support of research proposals, interfacing with clients, developing team science workshops, building collaborative capacity for teams, facilitating team science workshops and activities, and promoting team science through connections with potential clients and advisory board members. Though this position focuses on Team Science, this position may contribute to non-Team Science project-based work requiring facilitation, training, and/or social science research activities. We welcome applicants to demonstrate how their background relates to the science of team science.
This position will support IRISS’s development in the execution of current research projects, in the project management and coordination with partners, and engagement with key personnel as necessary. 
The successful candidate will build strong and positive working relationships with staff, unit directors, researchers, campus faculty, and administrators, as well as external community and business partners as required with each project. Occasional travel and working non-standard hours are expected periodically to support teams and clients working and living in other time zones. This position may occasionally be asked to support organizational priorities and projects as assigned by the Associate Director of Research.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a social science discipline or related field and 2 years of experience; or Masters degree in a social science discipline or related field with 5 years experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting research in the social sciences.
  • Demonstrated mastery of multiple social science research methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and network methods and software (e.g. R, Stata, NVivo, social network analysis software packages).
  • Experience designing and building educational sessions or training workshops for interdisciplinary researchers.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated facilitation experience of scientific teams. 
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Experience managing project or program budgets.
  • Experience with Qualtrics.
  • Survey development experience.
  • Experience with research and/or program evaluation of interdisciplinary scientific teams. 
  • Experience with online survey tools designed to capture social network data (e.g. ONA Surveys, EgoNet).
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience supervising research staff and/or student research assistants.
  • Experience developing focus group and/or interview protocols.
  • Knowledge of human subjects research regulatory practices. 
  • Report and/or manuscript writing experience.
  • CITI Training certificate for behavioral science.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Excellent verbal, editing, and writing skills.  
  • Experience in facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships in interdisciplinary groups.

1. Manage awarded grant, project activities and associated contract deliverables. 
2. Utilize a variety of data collection methods, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc., to meet research project goals. 
3. Provide tools and expert knowledge in designing and building educational interventions for existing teams. 
4. Facilitate scientific teams in the process of team formation. 
5. Train, facilitate and assist teams for building capacity to become competitive on large interdisciplinary funding proposals. 
6. Develop and lead team science projects for internal and external clients. 
7. Develop and lead workshops, conferences, training and presentations related to the science of team science. 
8. Develop and implement appropriate metrics and research, support research and grant collaborations in support of IRISS’s strategic plan.
