Job Description Summary:
This position will perform projects with a research area of alcohol-associated liver disease. The research projects aim at understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of alcohol-induced pathogenesis at the gut-liver axis and exploring preventive and/or therapeutic interventions.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline. Experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of direct laboratory experience in working with animals, maintaining a colony, maintaining record database, small rodent surgery.

  • Experience in general molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience: Experience in handling mouse models.

Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.

Job Description

  • Manages a transgenic mouse colony including, husbandry, genotyping and preparing animal care protocols and documentation.

  • Assists with experiments under the direction of the PI.

  • Supports and aids lab members with animal protocols and completion of animal-based experiments including surgical procedures, histology, RT-PCR, and TUNEL.

  • Present research findings at scientific meetings.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication under the supervision of the PI.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
