Research Associate in Environmental Sciences

The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Dynamics.  The successful candidate will design and analyze innovative global climate model experiments to study the role of the large-scale atmospheric circulation in future climate change, focusing on the atmospheric circulation’s impact on either regional hydroclimate or global cloud feedbacks. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science/meteorology, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline is required by the appointment start date.  The candidate must be proficient in programming in Python, Matlab, or a similar language.  The most qualified applicants will have: 1) prior experience working with large gridded atmospheric science datasets (reanalyses and/or global climate model output); 2) prior research experience working with the large-scale atmospheric circulation, regional hydroclimate, and/or global cloud feedbacks; and 3) excellent written and oral communication skills.  Previous experience running global climate model experiments, particularly with the Community Earth System Model (CESM), is highly desired.
