The Department of Engineering Systems and Environment at the University of Virginia seeks a postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Venkataraman Lakshmi.
The Candidate will be expected to (a) Develop new techniques for downscaling coarse global vegetation data (b) Analyze the impact of human disturbance and sea level rise in the Caribbean . These current research areas involve (a) Use of visible and Near Infrared Satellite sensors; satellite altimeter data (b) Statistical analysis of trends of vegetation (c) Spatial variability of vegetation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD degree in a civil engineering by the appointment start date. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in image-based assessment techniques such as digital image correlation, visual recognition, and computer programming. Additional preferred skills include experience in a structural laboratory environment and field testing on large scale structural systems. The successful candidate will work directly with the PI and also engage in supervising current graduate and undergraduate students in the MOB Lab.
