The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Associates in Discipline-Based Education Research under the direction of Dr. Marilyne Stains (https://sites.google.com/view/marilynestains/home ). The successful candidate(s) will analyze data collected as part of large research projects previously funded by NSF. It is also anticipated that the candidate will work collaboratively with other entities on campus such as the Center for Teaching Excellence. The focus of these research endeavors is to understand how to support STEM faculty to implement evidence-based instructional practices. Responsibilities will include statistical analysis of large data sets, design and implementation of qualitative studies, writing of peer-review manuscripts, presenting findings at conferences, and teaching of a 1-credit course each fall. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in discipline-based education research (e.g., chemical education research, physics education research, engineering education research, or biology education research) is required by the appointment start date. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. A record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed science education journals will be highly valued. Desirable qualifications include knowledge and application of best practices in higher education teaching, learning, and assessment, as well as experience with faculty development. The successful candidate(s) will have a substantial background in quantitative and/or qualitative research design and methods, be able to work independently, and multi-task. The successful candidate will be expected to help mentor undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory.
