Job Summary

The Research Associate III (SRA III) will undertake research project independently, with only modest input from the research advisor. They will contribute laboratory experimental procedures which indicate significant independent contribution beyond the junior level.

The SRA III will consult with the research advisor on the nature and general plan of attack to basic research problems; read scientific articles broadly and pertinent to research problems being addressed; organize and work out all techniques involved; plan and assign the work of multiple individuals, including an existing SRA I (who will be promoted in June to an SRA II position) and a second SRA I that we are currently recruiting; suggest original ideas as to the direction of laboratory research; train other staff personnel and students in their use; perform ligase trapping, mass spectrometry, deep sequencing and data analysis, generate clonal cell lines (all in mammalian tissue culture) and also, simultaneously, carry out a project in yeast.

These experiments will be done to identify the function and substrates of several ubiquitin ligases. All of this work will be accompanied by written reports.

Required Qualifications

• BA/BS degree with a major in a related science and two or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Research: Gibson cloning and lentivirus work
• Research: protein purification, virus preparation, generation of stable cells, RNA purification, RT PCR, SYBR qPCR and analysis
• Microscopy, independent design of experiments, (eg cloning strategy),
• Making clonal cell lines in tissue culture
• Experience undertaking mass spectrometry analysis looking for post translational modifications
• Experience examining ubiquitination reactions by Ligase Trapping
• Experience with in vitro protein modification assays, such as ubiquitin ligation
• Experience with yeast genetics
• Cell culture techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a scientific laboratory
• Ph. D. in Genetics, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology
