Position Focus:

The newly launched Hattie Chung Lab at the Yale School of Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Center pioneers experimental and computational methods to study the principles of cellular heterogeneity that underlie tissue function in health and disease. We pioneer single-cell and spatial genomics technologies to study how the coordination of cell signaling across time and space impacts tissue function. Responsibilities

The candidate will support numerous scientific projects. Responsibilities include participating in the design and execution of experiments; analyzing, recording, and organizing data from the experiments; presenting and sharing results to colleagues and to the PI. Technical responsibilities include standard molecular biology (PCR), immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, and animal experiments. Contributions will be appropriately recognized by authorship on publications. Additional responsibilities include tracking and ordering laboratory supplies, maintaining a thorough understanding of laboratory safety regulations and procedures, and managing animal protocols. Essential Duties

1. Designs, plans, implements and evaluates complex multifaceted research projects/systems, including method development, adaptation and validation. 2. Collaborates with PI to define research endeavors and the development of research hypothesis and approach. 3. Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures and policies that will achieve research goals. 4. Develops long range plans for supplies and equipment to ensure smooth operation of laboratory. 5. Investigates, analyzes and evaluates complex data, data collection systems and methods to reach scientific conclusions and ensures the integrity of research data. 6. Collaborates with PI to coordinate major lab renovations working with Facilities, Health and Safety, and Purchasing to ensure deadlines, safety standards and purchases are according to plans and within budgets. 7. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven experience with one or more of the following molecular biology techniques: molecular biology techniques (PCR and cloning), tissue culture, flow cytometry, western blotting, next-generation sequencing, single-cell sequencing, immunohistochemistry.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proven experience with handling animal models including mice. Familiarity with injections and tissue harvest is preferred.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Familiarity with microscopy.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write scientific reports and prepare presentations.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to train students.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and 2-3 years of experience working in a laboratory setting.
