Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate II within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Research Associate II position is to lead research investigations in chemotherapy-induced toxicity among children treated for cancer, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The Research Associate II will supervise laboratory staff (technicians and post-doctoral fellows), conduct and execute research experiments, and draft written reports for inclusion in manuscripts and grant proposals.
 
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • Design, execute, and analyze research experiments related to chemotherapy-induced toxicity. May use animal models and/or specimens collected from children being treated for cancer.
  • Under the direction of the principal investigator: investigates, reviews, modifies, develops, and tests new analytical procedures and methodologies.
  • Contributes to writing research protocols and protocol amendments as required for IRB and IACUCapproval.
  • Assists the PI with development and writing of research grant proposals. 
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments.
  • Gives presentations of the research at local, regional and national meetings.
  • Trains students, laboratory technicians, and postdoctoral fellows in laboratory techniques.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in medical sciences required, or a Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience required. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in animal work, analytic techniques, e.g. HPLC, mass spectrometry required. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • In addition, familiarity with chemotherapy and a background in molecular biology are preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs. 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to animals (rats) blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
