Summary of Essential Job Duties

Working under direct supervision Pramod Butte, MBBS, PhD in the Biophotonics Lab, the Research Associate II will be involved in the design, development and building of cutting-edge medical imaging systems in addition to being part of the team conducting clinical trials. The job will provide a unique opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team involving optical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, biomedical engineers as well as surgeons and other medical personnel. You will be involved in the development and possible commercialization of medical device technology. The position will provide experience as a part of a highly focused team on a broad array of technologies. In addition, the position will offer experience with other technicians, with clinical trials, collecting clinical data, and following clinical protocols. The position will also provide opportunity to work on medical technology with far reaching and immediate impact on patients’ lives. Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.  The Research Associate will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings.  The Research Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects.  The Research Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance.  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

In addition to routine tasks, the Research Associate will:

  • Assist in hands-on development and manufacturing of prototype systems by performing activities such as, circuit design, PCB design, fabrication, soldering and testing.
  • Assist in documentation of the development of prototype system such as producing dimensioned & tolerance part drawings or circuit schematics.
  • Assist in collecting experimental data using Time resolved fluorescence system in the operating room or in the lab.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results.  Manage experimental data generated in the lab.
  • Analyze data and execute programs for data analyses (in depth programming skills not required but is a plus).
  • Ensure medical equipment/devices are setup before the procedure and meet sterility, safety, and experimental guidelines/policies.  Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensure the laboratory is organized and well stocked.
  • Follow written and orally presented health, safety, and experimental protocols, procedures, and guidelines. 

Educational Requirements

Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree in engineering, sciences and/or biological sciences. Degree in Electrical Engineering preffered.

Experience

Two (2) years of laboratory experience or equivalent.  Some experience with the following: Analog and digital electrical circuits, PCB Design, cabling and connectorization, micro-controller programming, python programming, python pandas, linux familiarity, video editing, image processing. Ability to learn additional skills on an as needed basis.

Must be highly motivated and able to work independently. Must have superior interpersonal, communication and organization skills and the ability to work across company disciplines and functional units, and computer application experience. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and attention to details.
