Working under supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. Position involves performing a variety of routine molecular and cell biology techniques including, but not limited to western blotting, DNA/RNA preps, PCR, and cell culture, preparation of buffers and media, mouse and human tissue processing, mouse handling, and regulatory compliance applications. The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings. The Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties:

  • Post-doc support. Assist post-docs with small aspects of their projects when they request help from you. Typical tasks include mouse work, minipreps, western blot, RT-qPCR, and cell culture.
  • Lab management tasks including ordering supplies, shipping samples to collaborators, coordinating lab inspections/repairs with facilities, etc.
  • General lab support tasks including autoclaving glassware & tips, preparation of common reagents, stocking supplies, emptying waste, etc.
  • Running pilot projects for Dr. Theodorescu. Meet with Principal Investigator monthly to discuss pilot projects and perform experiments
  • Performs a variety of experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of protocols and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences or related field.
  • 2 years of laboratory or related research experience. Familiar with routine cell biology laboratory procedures (e.g. PCR, molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, making buffers), and overall lab organization.
