Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute is searching for a Research Associate I to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

We are seeking creative and upbeat Research Associate I (RA) that will assist in the development and execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data collected and writing up experiment results.

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for integration and engineering support for various real robot projects. Maintain server machines.

  • Be responsible for maintaining the robot platforms for the painting and the sculpting projects.

  • Develop and maintain software for various projects in the robot Intelligence Group (BIG) including social navigation, robot painting/sculpting, and care robots.

  • Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.

  • May program software in support of job functions. Attends project meetings.

  • Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.

  • Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports. May build and validate quantitative models.

  • Support demos and other research activities such as running experiments and data pre- and post-processing.

  • Support designing and running robot experiments, user studies, and analyzing results.

  • Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observations.

  • Will be responsible for developing creative art projects using AI and robotics research outputs from robot Intelligence Group (BIG) and help preparing various exhibitions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience

  • Strong Analytical Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong Problem solving and reasoning skills

  • 1-3 years of experience with data collection and analysis

  • 1-3 years of research experience

  • 1 - 3 years of research lab experience

  • 1 - 3 years of research methodology experience

Training:

  • OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training
