Principal Investigator, Pramod Butte, PhD, is looking for a Research Associate I to join the team!

The primary focus of the Butte Laboratory is translational research in the field of biophotonics. The Butte Lab is developing novel intraoperative imaging/visualization technologies to aid surgeons in achieving near-complete tumor excision. The Lab is working on two technologies to accomplish this goal: first, exploring the technique of time-resolved laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy (TR-LIFS) for delineation of primary brain tumors in near real-time and, second, developing a novel near-infrared (NIR) imaging system for visualizing tumors tagged with a unique marker, which is used to make them glow during surgery.

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. This position assists in general laboratory activities, including maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies. The Research Assistant I will be able to perform routine cellular, microand molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to Western, Northern blot, DNA/RNA, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, and staining. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Files and monitors documents.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results.
  • Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.
  • Observes safety standards and procedures.
  • Operates research prototype instruments to collect data; training will be provided.
  • Assistsresearch staff in managing and organizing data
  • Assists in performing routine bench experiments.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of ScienceDegree.


Experience:
  • Understanding of general research objectives.
  • Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation.
  • Understanding of general research objectives.
  • Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
  • Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with programming is preferred.

Physical Demands:

Position requires working with specialized equipment and computers for extended periods of time and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds and push the research prototype heavy cart.
