Position Summary:

The Lab for Language Experience and Acquisition Research at NYU (LEARN Lab), directed by Dr. Sudha Arunachalam, has an opening for a full-time research associate to begin in or near June 1, 2024 (start date flexible). The research associate will be involved in federally-funded research on language development in children ages 6 and under, primarily, but not exclusively, on a project involving transcription and coding of parent-child interactions using the CHAT transcription system. The work will take place on site at New York University. The initial appointment will be for one year but is potentially renewable.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Transcribing and coding parent-child interactions

  • Training and managing a team of research assistants

  • Recruiting research participants via parent outreach

  • Conducting experimental procedures

  • Managing data

  • Assisting with human subjects protocols and compliance

Qualifications:

Required: A bachelor's degree in linguistics; or in a related field but with coursework in phonetics, syntax, and language development. Experience working with preschool-aged children. Experience transcribing or working with transcripts of children's speech. A problem-solving mindset. Computer-savvy and interested in learning new skills.

Compensation:

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $57,000-$66,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be completely in-person.
