Position Summary

A Postdoctoral research and outreach position is available in the Antimicrobial Stewardship & Dairy Health Management Laboratory of Dr. Pamela Ruegg in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. Our laboratory group studies antimicrobial stewardship and dairy health management practices that contribute to reduced need for antimicrobial treatments with emphasis on practices that improve udder health. Research projects emphasize cutting edge laboratory and statistical methods to address practical problems and align with One Health principles. The candidate will assist in designing and implementing research and outreach projects related to assessing and optimizing antimicrobial usage on dairy farms and will work on projects designed to enhance the role of veterinarians in improving antimicrobial stewardship. The candidate will coordinate and perform and field studies that may include laboratory work (75%), prepare manuscripts for high impact scientific journals (20%), and present scientific research at national and international scientific meetings (5%).

Required Degree

Doctorate -DVM and PhD


Minimum Requirements

The candidate must have a veterinary degree and a Ph.D (or equivalent) with a strong background in understanding dairy animal health, dairy records, epidemiological study design and statistical analysis. 


Desired Qualifications

Experience with laboratory methods used to assess udder health, methods used to quantify antimicrobial usage on dairy farms, and knowledge of antibiotic usage practices on US dairy farms.
