Research Associate Position Available in Dr. Erman Ayday’s Laboratory

Dr. Erman Ayday’s laboratory at Case Western Reserve University is recruiting a Research Associate. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with expertise in Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The positions’ objectives are to advance research in areas including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Privacy enhancing technologies (including big data and genomic privacy)
  • Genomic privacy
  • Fingerprinting correlated data and relational databases
  • Iterative algorithms for trust and reputation management

These are important research areas in the Computer & Data Sciences program at Case. The scope for the positions is to become part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. The responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) leading research projects, training junior researchers, developing new ideas and intellectual property, participating in conferences to share research progress, writing and publishing scientific documents and growing collaborative research both within and outside of Case Western Reserve, and helping with writing research proposals.

ABOUT THE PI

Dr. Erman Ayday’s research interests include privacy-enhancing technologies (including big data and genomic privacy), fingerprinting algorithms, and trust and reputation management. He is the recipient of Distinguished Student Paper Award at IEEE S&P 2015, 2010 Outstanding Research Award from the Center of Signal and Image Processing (CSIP) at Georgia Tech, and 2011 ECE Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) Excellence Award from Georgia Tech. His other various accomplishments include several patents, research grants, and H2020 Marie Curie individual fellowship. He is am a member of the IEEE and the ACM.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(1) Multiple project management (10%).

(2) Active research (50%).

(3) Scientific reports, manuscripts, grants and invention disclosure writing (20%).

(4) Training graduate and undergraduate researchers (10%).

(5) Attend conferences and meetings (5%).

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(1) Travel to collaborator locations for research execution (5%).

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience : 0-1 Years.

Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Data Science or combinations.

Successful candidates will have expertise in Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong skills in C++ and Machine Learning frameworks and their backends
  • Design and execute experiments.
  • Data acquisition and analysis.
  • Scientific document and report preparation.
  • Scientific presentation.
  • Coordination with interdisciplinary researchers.
