Are you someone who is passionate about making a positive impact? Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science Department is searching for a Research Associate.. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the team by independently designing experiments and research protocols related to work on a sponsored project on parallel and streaming algorithms by studying fundamental problems using limited memory and parallel computation, leading to faster algorithms in more practical models under various resource constraints. In addition, you will software develop in the areas of cryptography and computation and suggests improvements in research methodology.


Core responsibilities will include:

  • Independently designs experiments and research protocols.  Independently sets up and performs sound experimental procedures. Suggests improvements in research methodology.
  • Develops software in the areas of mathematical theory and cryptography.
  • Collects, verifies and manages data. Develops data analysis methods and protocols.
  • May develop computational modeling methods.
  • May manage IRB approval process and document IRB policies for assigned research projects.
  • Performs complex and original data analysis in order to produce reports, documents, and process overviews.
  • Writes and edits recommendations and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.



MS Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field. 

1-3 years’ experience in:  Research methodology and lab experience; software development; and data collection and analysis.  Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, problem-solving and reasoning skills, and project management skills.
