The Department of Animal Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs on the biology and management of food, laboratory, and companion animal species. Our research programs advance our understanding of animal biology and address local and global issues facing animal industries today. Our goals are to discover and develop new techniques and information to benefit animals, agriculture, human health, and climate.

What You Will Do

We are looking for a Research Associate to lead the development of novel enzymes for improving global nutrition security and environmental sustainability.

This position will be supported by the Dr. Xinliang Li Research Fund. This position will be a four-day work week at 80% FTE.

The selected candidate will perform the intended research in a well-established and highly active molecular nutrition laboratory with prior success in developing bacterial phytases for the global feed industry.  We are seeking highly motivated, ambitious, and creative individuals with strong PhD and postdoctoral training in biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, nutrition or closely related fields.  Your responsibilities include:

• Literature review and research plan writing: 10%
• Perform research, data analysis, and result summary: 60%
• Research paper preparation and publication: 15%
• Research proposal application and supervision of junior researchers: 15%

What We Need

• Ph.D. degree and training in biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, nutrition, or closely related fields.
• Five years postdoctoral or equivalent research experience in above-described areas
• Full skill set of gene cloning, construct preparation, protein expression and characterization, and genetic engineering.
• Experience and knowledge in industrial enzyme production systems, bioinformatics, and proteomics.
• Strong work ethic, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to work well within a team environment.  
• Demonstrated interest, skill, and experience in research leadership.

Supervision Exercised

The candidate will have opportunities to help supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers in the lab and to engage and collaborate with industrial sponsors.

CALS hiring range for this title is $49,100 to $64,000.

Pay Range:

$49,100.00 - $94,700.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

• Prior relevant work or industry experience.
• Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
• Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
• Unique applicable skills.
