POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Keppetipola Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, Fullerton is seeking a research associate with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology.  Our group is focused on characterizing the role of chemical modifications in RNA binding protein function.

Essential Duties

  • The research associate will primarily conduct biochemical assays including recombinant protein expression and purification, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, Western Blotting, and reverse-transcription PCR. 
  • He/she will also be responsible for maintaining cell cultures and conducting transfections. 
  • As a senior lab member, the successful applicant will also communicate scientific results in weekly meetings, oversee and participate in lab operations, and mentor/train students.  
  • Promotes an inclusive environment of teamwork and leads to ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced/applied in department operations, programs, and services

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field (chemistry, biochemistry or biology) or comparable experience is required. 
  • Applicants should have a proven track record in biochemistry/molecular biology with two years’ experience in performing the kinds of experiments described

EDUCATION:
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field (chemistry, biochemistry or biology) or comparable experience is required. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
