This is a limited term position for 1-2 years. This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.


This research associate job exists to assist in the daily lab maintenance and research support tasks in a lab on the Tufts Medford Campus.  The position supports a range of research projects investigating the role of the extracellular matrix in breast cancer progression and drug resistance.  

Essential Duties:

  • Lab ordering
  • Managing Instrument servicing, Assisting in maintaining stock levels, making lab stock solutions for assays and culture medium
  • Help integrate new lab members into the lab, help with onboarding and overall lab management
  • Be the lab safety officer and help with maintaining compliance with established protocols
  • Cell culture: standard cell culture techniques, cell expansion, cell storage, cell characterization using molecular biology and protein assessment techniques
  • Help with histology and tissue preparation
  • Supporting postdoctoral scholars and PhD students working on the role of the extracellular matrix in driving tumor cell invasion: performing live imaging on our lab scope, helping with data analysis.
  • Helping with in vivo experiments generating, monitoring and dissecting mammary xenograft tumors in mice
  • Multitasking – working with several lab members using similar lab techniques to answer different biological questions

 

 

Qualifications

 

Basic Requirements:

  • BS in biology/biochemistry/biomedical engineering or related background, with at least 3 years work experience in a lab.     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience evaluating, refreshing and updating administrative policies, office systems and budgets within an educational setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience working effectively with young adults/adolescents, families, faculty, senior administration and staff members within a similar higher education setting is strongly preferred.
  • Strategic leadership and management skills, including the ability to recruit and develop outstanding staff and support a team of colleagues within a demanding office environment are a plus.
  • A demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, experience utilizing data and assessment to inform decision making, and effective program advocacy skills are all preferred.
  • Experience successfully engaging campus climate issues through co-curricular student-focused programs and leadership development a plus.
